Trinidad Priest Who Led Several Catholic Churches Dies at 69

A former pastor of three Catholic parishes in Pueblo and Holy Trinity Parish in Trinidad has died.

The Rev. Richard Francis Joseph Becker Jr., a priest of the Diocese of Pueblo, died Feb. 27 after a short illness.

He was 69.

Becker was born in 1947 in St. Louis, Mo.

He was ordained a priest in 1972.

In 1983, Becker was appointed rector of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

From July 1993 to July 2006, Becker served as pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blende and St. Therese Church in Vineland.

In addition to his responsibilities at St. Joseph and St. Therese, Becker was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Pueblo from 2001-05.

From 2006-12, Becker served as pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Trinidad and its missions.

Becker retired from active ministry on Sept. 1, 2014, but continued his ministry with his parish family in Trinidad. During his tenure with the Diocese of Pueblo, Becker served as moderator for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and was the Diocesan representative with a number of Catholic organizations, boards and committees.
