Michigan State Basketball Star Tum Tum Nairn Touched by Teammates’ Prayers for His Family In the Bahamas During Hurricane Matthew
Michigan State men’s basketball player Tum Tum Nairn started to worry about his family in the Bahamas as Hurricane Matthew hit the island last week. That’s when his teammates started praying.
Across the Caribbean, the Category 4 storm killed hundreds and destroyed the homes of thousands more. Nairn was not able to get in touch with his mother, so his Spartan teammates began giving him emotional support.
“When they prayed for me, I’m an emotional guy – I don’t take things like that for granted,” Nairn said. “That touched me in a way that I will never forget.”
Nairn was finally able to get in touch with his mother, and he learned that the damage to their home was minor.
“A couple trees fell down,” he said.
Nairn will get to inspect the damage personally next month as Michigan State heads to the Bahamas for the annual “Battle 4 Atlantis” tournament, scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. His home is less than 10 miles from the arena where the tournament will be held.
